60km from Yerevan
Aragats mountain is the highest mountain in Armenia. It has 4 peaks: South 3789m, East 3916m, West 4008m and North 4090m. The main start point for climbing routes is Lake Kari 3207m. For well-trained mountaineers it is possible to climb all summits during one day. But we don’t recommend to plan it if you are first time in that mountain. North and East peaks require rock-climbing ability and experience and is dangerous. Many experienced mountaineers go there without safety, but we don’t recommend to do that. Take into account that 99% of climbers go only the false North peak. On the slopes of Aragats you can visit Amberd fortress and Byurakan observatory.
