Hovhannavank Monastery
The oldest building is the church of St. Karapet (St. John the Baptist) built at the beginning of 4c. by St. Gregory the Enlightener, who baptized Armenia into the world’s first Christian nation. In that church, the power of St. John the Baptist is stored. The main church of the monastery was built in 13c. Interior of the Cathedral is well decorated. Under the monastery, there is a big cave (entrance from the canyon side), used as a secret passage. At the monastery, you will enjoy an amazing view of Kasakh canyon.
Saghmosavank Monastery
Saghmosavank monastery was founded in 13c. It’s one of the most important monuments of medieval Armenia. It is well known by the awesome view of the same Kasakh canyon.
Haghpat and Sanahin monasteries
Haghpat and Sanahin monasteries are another important spiritual centers of medieval Armenia. Both are founded in 10c. in neighboring villages.
Odzun Cathedral
Odzun Cathedral was built in 8c. It was one of most monumental building of the Early Middle Ages in Armenia. Near the temple, this is one of only two such funerary monuments in Armenia.
Kobayr Monastery
Kobayr monastery was founded in 12c. It was one of the most important spiritual centers of Armenia and Georgia in the High Middle Ages. Located on the beautiful slope of the canyon of Debed river. The monastery surrounded by awesome rocks and caves. At the monastery, you will enjoy an amazing view of the canyon.
